Dan Theodorescu: Aaron Scott Was Selected As Director of University of Arizona Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Early Therapeutics Program
Dan Theodorescu, Director at the University of Arizona Comprehensive Cancer Center, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“I’m very appreciative of the mentorship focus here at the University of Arizona and the University of Arizona Comprehensive Cancer Center. In this context especially, I’m proud to announce the appointment of Aaron Scott, MD, as director of our Early Therapeutics Program, which covers phase one clinical trials for innovative pharmaceuticals. In this capacity, Aaron will partner with industry and cancer center members to expand the center’s clinical trials portfolio. Aaron is a 5th generation U of A graduate, and his path to becoming the clinician scientist he is today began more than 20 years ago. Since 2017 he’s contributed authorship to 42 publications and 13 of these are ones he’s led or supervised.
Aaron’s path to choosing this career is interesting. There’s so much about it that makes one appreciative of the role mentors play in our development as cancer researchers, clinicians, and leaders. During his freshman year at U of A, Aaron found himself more interested in his dormmate’s books than his own and changed his major from Materials and Science Engineering to Molecular and Cellular Biology.
The rest is history, or so they say. Aaron was hooked. He studied abroad for a while. He first worked at the center as a clinical trials coordinator way back in 2004 and had the opportunity to interact with and learn from clinician scientists. Unbeknownst to me at the time, we crossed paths in Colorado while I served as director, and he completed his fellowship there. If you’d like to know a little more about his story, I encourage you to read a more in depth feature on our website, which really speaks to the power of mentorship and its role in advancing the field of cancer research.”
