2025 AACR Annual Election: Meet the Candidates

The voting for the 2025 AACR Annual Election is now open, where members will vote for the next President-Elect, Treasurer, five Board Members, and four members of the Nominating Committee.

CANDIDATES FOR PRESIDENT-ELECT

  • Keith T. Flaherty, MD, FAACR

Director of Clinical Research at Massachusetts General Cancer Center and a Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts.

  • Victor E. Velculescu, MD, PhD, FAACR

Co-Director of Cancer Genetics and Epigenetics and a Professor of Oncology, Pathology, Medicine, and Genetic Medicine at the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland.

CANDIDATE FOR TREASURER

Michael A. Caligiuri, MD, FAACR

Professor in the Division of Leukemia, Department of Hematology and Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation at City of Hope and a Past-President of City National Medical Center in Duarte, California.

CANDIDATES FOR THE AACR BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Timothy A. Yap, MD, PhD

He is the Professor in the Department of Investigational Cancer Therapeutics (Phase I Program), Division of Cancer Medicine, and Vice President, Head of Clinical Development at the Therapeutics Discovery Division. He is also the Associate Director of Translational Research at the Khalifa Institute for Personalized Cancer Therapy, all at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.

Brian M. Rivers, PhD, MPH

Professor and the Director of the Cancer Health Equity Institute at Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia.

Johann S. de Bono, MD, PhD

He is the Regius Professor of Cancer Research, Professor of Experimental Cancer Medicine, and Honorary Consultant in Medical Oncology. He is also the Head of the Division of Clinical Studies, Director of the Drug Development Unit, and Head of the Prostate Cancer Targeted Therapy Group at the Institute of Cancer Research in London, United Kingdom.

Crystal L. Mackall, MD, FAACR

She is the Ernest and Amelia Gallo Family Professor, Professor of Pediatrics and Medicine, and Founding Director of the Stanford Center for Cancer Cell Therapy. She is also the Director of the Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy and Associate Director of the Stanford Cancer Institute in Stanford, California.

Charles W.M. Roberts, MD, PhD

Executive Vice President and Director of the Comprehensive Cancer Center at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.

Timothy R. Rebbeck, PhD, FAACR

He is the Director and Vincent L. Gregory Jr. Professor of Cancer Prevention at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. He is also the Associate Director for Equity and Engagement at Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center in Boston, Massachusetts.

Mikala Egeblad, PhD

She is the Bloomberg Distinguished Professor of Tumor Microenvironment at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and a Professor of Cell Biology and Oncology. She is also the Co-Leader of the Cancer Invasion and Metastasis Program at the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center in Baltimore, Maryland.

Avrum E. Spira, MD, MSc

He is the Global Head of Interventional Oncology at Johnson & Johnson and a Professor of Medicine, Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, and Bioinformatics. He is also the Alexander Graham Bell Professor of Healthcare Entrepreneurship at Boston University School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts.

Massimo Loda, MD

He is the David D. Thompson Professor at Weill Cornell Medical College, Chairman of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine, and Pathologist-in-Chief at New York-Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York, New York.

Nina Bhardwaj, MD, PhD

She is the Director of Immunotherapy and Medical Director of the Vaccine and Cell Therapy Laboratory at The Tisch Cancer Institute in New York, New York.

Nickolas Papadopoulos, PhD

He is a Professor of Oncology and Pathology at Johns Hopkins Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Director of Translational Genetics at the Ludwig Center at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.

Mariana Carla Stern, PhD

She is the Vice-Chair of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and a Professor in the Department of Population and Public Health Sciences at the Keck School of Medicine of USC. She holds the Ira Goodman Chair in Cancer Research and serves as the Associate Director of Population Sciences at Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center. She is also the Program Director for the Master’s Degree Programs in Epidemiology and the CaRE2 Health Equity Center in Los Angeles, California.

Karen H. Vousden, PhD, FAACR

Principal Group Leader at The Francis Crick Institute in London, United Kingdom.

Anirban Maitra, MBBS

He is a Professor of Pathology and Translational Molecular Pathology, holds the Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Distinguished University Chair in Cancer Research, and is the Scientific Director of the Sheikh Ahmed Center for Pancreatic Cancer Research at UT MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.

Nancy E. Davidson, MD, FAACR

She is the Executive Vice President of Clinical Affairs, a Professor in the Clinical Research Division, and holds the Raisbeck Endowed Chair for Collaborative Research at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle, Washington.

Jos Jonkers, PhD

He is the Head and Senior Group Leader of the Division of Molecular Pathology at the Netherlands Cancer Institute and a Professor of Molecular Experimental Oncogenetics and Cancer Therapeutics at Leiden University in Leiden, Netherlands.
