I had the honor of being conferred lifetime Fellowship of the American Society of Clinical Oncology – Navneet Singh
Earlier this month at Chicago, I had the honor of being conferred lifetime Fellowship of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) along with other recipients of ASCO’s Special Awards during the opening ceremony of the ASCO Annual Meeting. Prior to this, only Tony Mok had received this honor from the Asia-Pacific region.
It also gave a chance to reflect on how things have evolved in the past 15 years while working as a faculty in the department of Pulmonary Medicine and managing the Lung Cancer Clinic at Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research
As pointed out by a very senior oncologist and ASCO past-president there, myself and Dr Roselle De Guzman from the Philippines, have become the first two oncologists from the Asia-Pacific region to have received both the International Development and Education Award (IDEA) and Fellowship of American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO).
I must acknowledge here the support that I have received from faculty colleagues (within my department as well as other departments who are an integral part of our multidisciplinary thoracic oncology group), fellows and residents rotating through our clinic/department, technical and other research staff as well as the institute’s administration over the years. Last but definitely not the least, the unwaivering support of immediate and close family members.
