Angela M. DeMichele is running for the Board of Directors of ASCO

Angela M. DeMichele is a candidate for a position on the Board of Directors for ASCO.

The ASCO Nominating Committee has selected 13 distinguished members as candidates for leadership positions within the Society.

ASCO encourages all eligible members to vote for the new leaders of the Society.
Eligible members include those holding a Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathy, Doctor of Philosophy, Doctor of Pharmacy, Doctor of Medical Science, Doctor of Nursing Science, Doctor of Nursing Practice, or an equivalent doctoral-level degree recognized by the Society and the Association, and who are in good standing as of October 14, 2024. Voting in the ASCO Election will earn eligible members a FASCO point.

The voting period ends on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at 3:00 PM Eastern Standard Time. All ballots, whether submitted online or by paper, must be received by this deadline.

Angela M. DeMichele, MD, MSCE, FASCO, is the Professor Of Medicine at University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.

The Fellow of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (FASCO) distinction recognizes members for their volunteer engagement, and commitment to ASCO.

Dr. Angela M. DeMichele is a distinguished medical oncologist with over 24 years of experience in clinical practice and research.

She is the Mariann T. and Robert J. MacDonald Professor in Breast Cancer Research at the University of Pennsylvania, where she holds faculty positions in both the Department of Medicine and the Department of Epidemiology.

Dr. DeMichele’s research focuses on the development of experimental therapeutics, the investigation of prognostic and predictive biomarkers, and the design of innovative approaches to detect and treat minimal residual disease to prevent breast cancer recurrence.

She currently serves as Co-Director of the 2-PREVENT Breast Cancer Translational Center of Excellence, a position she has held since 2013. Additionally, she has served as Co-Leader of the Breast Cancer Program at the University of Pennsylvania since 2000.

She has earned her leadership roles in many high-profilePhoto organizations, including editorial positions on prominent journals like Nature Breast Cancer, Breast Cancer Research and Treatment, and Journal of Clinical Oncology.

She has served as a reviewer for top journals such as the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, Cancer Research, New England Journal of Medicine, and Nature Medicine. She has also been actively involved in several influential committees and advisory boards, including the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), and the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN).

She has been a member of the NIH Cancer Epidemiology Study Section, the American College of Epidemiology, and the Living Beyond Breast Cancer medical advisory board.

She has also been involved in grant review panels for organizations like Susan G. Komen for the Cure and Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, and she has served on advisory boards for Expedition Inspiration Fund for Breast Cancer Research and other major breast cancer initiatives.

Dr. DeMichele has also provided lectures on cancer prevention and control at the NIH and has been instrumental in shaping the future of breast cancer research through her role in the NCCN Research Steering Committee.

Education

Dr. Angela M. DeMichele’s earned her B.A. in Biochemistry from Brown University in 1988, followed by an M.D. from Washington University School of Medicine in 1991. She further earned a Master of Science in Clinical Epidemiology (M.S.C.E.) from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 2001.

Dr. DeMichele’s postgraduate training includes an internship in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (1991-1992), followed by a residency in Medicine at the same institution (1992-1994).

She also completed a Visiting Clinical Fellowship in Hematology at the Istituto di Ematologia Serà gnoli, University of Bologna (1994-1995), and went on to complete a fellowship in Hematology-Oncology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania from 1995 to 1998.
