Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu: The hidden threat of microplastics and their potential link to cancer
Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu, UICC President-Elect of 2024-2026, shared a post on X:
“The hidden threat of microplastics and their potential link to cancer.
In Nigeria, over 2.5 million tons of plastic waste are generated yearly, with less than 10% recycled. A 2023 study found that globally, microplastics exists in the blood of 80% of people tested. These particles may carry toxic chemicals and increase cancer risk.
Climate change is a real and present danger.
Reduce your plastic footprint and push for stronger environmental policies to protect both our planet and our health.”
