Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu: Honored to be a panelist at the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs’ Nigerian Women’s Day commemoration
Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu, UICC President-Elect of 2024-2026, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“I was deeply honored to be a panelist at the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs’ Nigerian Women’s Day commemoration on the sidelines of CSW69 in New York on March 15, 2025. Under the powerful theme, “30 Years of Progress, Resilience, Impact, and Renewed Hope,” I had the privilege of joining a distinguished panel on “Women in Health and Academia.”
Drawing on my journey as a pediatrician turned cancer advocate, I highlighted how overcoming inertia to address pressing local challenges in access to cancer care for women in Nigeria has led to broader efforts in tackling disparities at state, national, and now global levels. From grassroots service delivery to state and national policy reform, and now on the global stage as President-Elect of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), this journey has reinforced the need for action-driven advocacy.
I am also grateful to the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs for honoring me at the Gala Night, an event that celebrated the strides Nigerian women have made over the past three decades and ignited renewed hope for the future. Under the able and inspiring leadership of the Honorable Minister, Hajia Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, and Permanent Secretary, Maryam Ismaila Keshinro, the ministry is driving unprecedented and accelerated growth for Nigerian women across all sectors.
This event was not just another talk shop—we secured commitments from leaders in banking, public procurement, and the digital economy to expand access for women through dedicated programs.
It was also wonderful to reconnect with friends and leaders, including: Current and former female ministers of Nigeria, the dynamic Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria (MWAN) Lagos team, Dr. Eleanor Nwadinobi, President of the Medical Women’s International Association, His Excellency, the Governor of Zamfara (Zamfara State Government), Dr. Maryam Ismaila Keshinro, Kemi Dasilva-Ibru, Founder of Women At Risk International Foundation (WARIF), and many other distinguished women.
I look forward to working with the ministry to transform our commitments into immediate action.”
