Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu to Make History as First African UICC President in 2026 – CancerWorld
CancerWorld shared a post on LinkedIn:
“A Defining Moment in Global Cancer Leadership
In October 2026, Dr. Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu will make history as the first African President of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), the world’s oldest and largest global cancer organization.
As Founder of the MEDICAID CANCER FOUNDATION, she has led grassroots awareness campaigns, built diagnostic services from the ground up, and championed policies that now provide life-saving care to countless Nigerians. Under her advocacy, over 13 million girls have received HPV vaccinations — a game-changer in Cervical Cancer prevention.
“As soon as people see me, the conversation turns to cancer. It has become my mission, my identity.”
Her leadership is shaped by the realities of under-resourced systems and the determination to change them. As she prepares to step onto the global stage,
Dr. Bagudu is asking the questions many overlook:
How do we ensure a woman in a rural community can access chemotherapy?
Can we secure better service contracts for radiotherapy machines across the continent?
How do we stem the migration of medical talent from low-income countries?”
