Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu: The Teen Session of 1Ummah Annual Convention to mark the WHO Cervical Cancer Elimination Day of Action
Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu, UICC President-Elect of 2024-2026, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“On November 17, we addressed the teen session 1Ummah Annual Convention, in Abuja to mark the WHO Cervical Cancer Elimination Day of Action. During our session, we educated over 200 teenagers on the link between HPV and cervical cancer, the benefits of HPV vaccination, and the importance of regular screenings for early detection. We were joined by cancer advocate, HE Fatima Dikko Radda. Her efforts in Katsina state resulted in a 99% HPV coverage during the rollout.
The teen session was fact-filled with interactive discussions and youthful enthusiasm. Aligned with WHO’s 90-70-90 strategy, this effort reinforces how education and awareness can drive action. By empowering young minds with knowledge today, we are building a future free from cervical cancer.
Have you vaccinated your children?
Girls aged 9-14 years are vaccinated free in Government centers in Nigeria.
For all others, the vaccine is available in most medical centers.
