Bringing together European Network of Youth Cancer Survivors Ambassadors – CCI Europe
Childhood Cancer International – Europe shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Last week, on World Cancer Day (February 4, 2025), the European Commission hosted Youth Dialogue 2025, bringing together European Network of Youth Cancer Survivors Ambassadors (ages 18-30) for a discussion with the new EU Health Commissioner, Olivér Várhelyi.
Survivors representatives shared their experiences and key issues that need more attention, including:
Long-Term Follow-Up Care: Many cancer survivors are discharged without a proper follow-up plan, leaving their long-term care overlooked. Critical aspects like transition care, psychosocial support, and career or education guidance are often left to chance – sometimes realized too late. Cancer doesn’t end when treatment does; many survivors face lasting physical and psychological effects, including disabilities, requiring specialized care.
Awareness of key policies: Initiatives like the Right To Be Forgotten exist, but not everyone knows about them, how they work, and how they can be implemented in different countries; and this needs to change.
Support for young survivors: Getting cancer as a young person is very different from facing it later in life. hashtag#eucayasnet platform gives young survivors a space to connect, share experiences, and support each other, creating a real sense of community.
Equal Access To Care: Every child with cancer and every individual with lived experience of cancer should have access to the best possible care, no matter where they live or their background.
