“The global rise of early-onset (<50) GI cancers is alarming – and accelerating.
In a new review, researchers highlight key trends across colorectal, gastric, pancreatic, and rare GI cancers:
Key Findings:
• Incidence rising across EO GI cancers
• Disproportionate impact on Black, Hispanic, Indigenous populations and women
• Germline variants more common, but most cases are sporadic
• Risk factors: obesity, Western diet, NAFLD, smoking, alcohol
• EO tumors often present more aggressively
Conclusion: EO GI cancers are distinct, complex, and growing. Tackling them requires better screening, deeper molecular insights, and an equity-focused, multidisciplinary approach.”
