William Aird: What Determines the ESR?
William Aird, Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, shared a post on X:
“What Determines The ESR?
- high ESR: high fibrinogen, high immunoglobulins, low Hct
- low ESR: poikilocytosis, low RBC deformability, high Hct, high plasma viscosity
Red cell stacking speeds it up. Resistance slows it down.
