“Final Words to the Ninth Cohort of the Policy Advocacy in Genetics and Genomics Course
Dear Participants,
As the curtain falls on the Ninth Cohort of this pioneering course, I am overwhelmed with admiration—for your resilience, brilliance, and the future you are already helping to shape.
Congratulations on successfully completing the Policy Advocacy in Genetics and Genomics course, organized by the Pan-African PGS Education and Research Initiative (PAPERI). Over the past weeks, you have not only absorbed knowledge—you have activated purpose. You came not just to learn, but to lead.
You navigated pressing issues – from zoonotic threats and antimicrobial resistance, to AI in healthcare and the ethics of genomic innovation. You asked hard questions, embraced uncomfortable truths, and spoke powerfully for equity, sovereignty, and justice in African science. Your debates weren’t just intellectually sharp – they were morally grounded and globally relevant.
Participating Countries:
– Nigeria
– Ghana
– Kenya
– Uganda
– Ethiopia
– Tanzania
– Zambia
– Cameroon
– Chad
– Sierra Leone
– Malawi
– South Sudan
– Madagascar
From every corner of the continent, your voices converged to demand a more ethical, inclusive, and decolonized approach to genomic science. You have shown us what leadership in action looks like—fueled by clarity, compassion, and courage.
To our Teaching Assistants (Ms. Mariym Youssif (Egypt) & Dr. Ernest Ahamah, MLS.D (Ghana) and supporters behind the scenes—your dedication has made this space not just educational, but transformational.
As you move forward, remember:
“Genomics is not just a science of sequences—it is a science of stories. Make sure Africa’s story is told by those who live it.”
“Leadership is not about control—it’s about clarity, community, and conviction.”
“Policy is how we protect the future. You are now its protectors.”
This is not the end – it is your beginning as advocates for a healthier, just, and genomically empowered Africa.
With deep respect and belief in your journey,
Dr. Wafaa M. Rashed, PhD
Chair & Founder, Pan-African PGS Education and Research Initiative (PAPERI).”
