“Final Words to the Seventh Cohort of the Policy Advocacy in Genetics and Genomics Course
Dear Participants,
As this cohort concludes, I write to you with immense pride and deep gratitude.
Congratulations on completing the seventh cohort of the Policy Advocacy in Genetics and Genomics course! Your passion, perseverance, and critical thinking have illuminated this journey in remarkable ways.
Over the past weeks, you’ve tackled some of the most urgent and complex questions in genetics and genomics policy—examining ethical dilemmas, challenging inequities, and advocating for science that truly serves society. This was more than a course. It was a space for transformation, for bold ideas, and for collective action.
The power of this cohort came not only from the knowledge shared but from the diverse global perspectives you brought. This was our most internationally representative cohort yet, with brilliant voices joining us from:
- Cameroon
- Kenya
- Burkina Faso
- Ethiopia
- Tanzania
- Sudan
- India
- Malaysia
- Uganda
- Yemen
- United Arab Emirates
- Nigeria
Each of you brought insight rooted in your regional realities, and together, you created a vibrant and inclusive dialogue on what ethical, evidence-based genomic policy can look like—across borders.
You’ve debated with conviction, reflected with humility, and shown that policy advocacy is not just about knowledge—it’s about courage, empathy, and commitment to justice. From indigenous rights to AI in genomics, from climate resilience to ethical drug approval, your voices have made it clear: you are the future of genomics policy.
On behalf of PAPERI, I thank you for your energy, your curiosity, and your belief in the power of policy to shape a more ethical and equitable world.
This may be the closing of one chapter—but it is only the beginning of your leadership journey. Keep learning, keep advocating, and keep lifting your voice.
“Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
Let’s continue building bridges between science and society—together.
With admiration and hope,
