Vincent Rajkumar: Does having good health insurance means we are secure?
Vincent Rajkumar, Professor of Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, shared a post on X:
“I used to think that having good health insurance with an annual maximum out of pocket cost means we can be secure.
Not anymore.
As I hear reports of:
- Doctor recommended tests or treatments not getting covered,
- Not knowing in urgent situations which hospital is in network and which hospital is out of network.
Means that coverage can be denied after the fact.
I’m seriously worried. Annual healthcare bills for serious conditions can be many times the annual salary in the US.
So this is not a trivial matter.”
