Valentina Clausi is the winner of the EACR Science Communication Prize

Valentina Clausi is a dedicated PhD student specializing in Molecular, Cellular, and Environmental Biology at Sapienza Università di Roma, with an expected completion date of January 2027. She has a strong academic foundation in biotechnology and biological sciences, emphasizing her commitment to advancing research in regenerative medicine and cardiac regeneration.

Valentina completed her Master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology at Sapienza from October 2020 to 2023, graduating with top honors. Her thesis, supervised by Prof. Roberto Gaetani, focused on the “Generation of cardiac spheroids engineered with decellularized cardiac extracellular matrix,” showcasing her expertise in tissue engineering. Before her master’s, she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Università degli Studi Roma Tre, graduating with high honors and conducting a thesis on mechanotransduction under Prof.ssa Alessandra Di Masi.

Her research experience includes several internships that have enriched her skills. From October 2021 to March 2023, Valentina interned at the Department of Molecular Medicine, Tissue Engineering, and Cardiac Regeneration Laboratory, where she gained proficiency in light and fluorescence microscopy, as well as 2D and 3D cell culture techniques. She also completed an internship at UMC Utrecht from October to December 2022 at the Regenerative Medicine Centre, focusing on experimental cardiology and cardiac tissue engineering.

Valentina’s academic achievements have been recognized through several prestigious awards and scholarships, including the “Graduate Day” Award from the Roma Sapienza Foundation in May 2024 for outstanding graduates and the International Thesis-Scholarship from Sapienza University of Rome in May 2021, which supported her master’s thesis preparation abroad. She also received the “Wanted the Best” scholarship in November 2020 for high-achieving students transitioning from other Italian universities.

As she progresses in her PhD studies, Valentina is committed to making significant contributions to regenerative medicine, particularly in cardiac applications. Her research aims to enhance the understanding and development of novel therapies for heart conditions, leveraging her expertise in tissue engineering and cellular biology. With her solid academic background and passion for research, Valentina Clausi is poised to make a meaningful impact in the fields of molecular and cellular biology, focusing on improving health outcomes through innovative scientific approaches.
