Ulrika Årehed Kågström Advocates for Gender-Inclusive HPV Vaccination in Sweden

Ulrika Årehed Kågström, President of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) and the Secretary-General of the Swedish Cancer Society, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Hard work is underway to get at least 70% of women born between 1994 and 1999 to get vaccinated against HPV completely free of charge. If we succeed, Sweden can become the first in the world to eradicate cervical cancer as early as 2027. A historic achievement.
But what happens to men?
HPV can also cause more cancers that affect both men and women. The Public Health Agency of Sweden therefore now recommends free vaccination for everyone, regardless of gender, up to and including the age of 26. It’s amazing!
But we know that it will take even more hard work to get the target group to get vaccinated. Targeted efforts, collaboration and creative communication will be needed to succeed. Therefore, incredibly happy to be part of a forum that brings together healthcare, the non-profit sector and the business community to find answers to how we can get more people to take the vaccine and thus protect themselves against cancer as quickly as possible.”

Ulrika Årehed Kågström emphasized the importance of inclusive HPV vaccination in Sweden, highlighting efforts to reach 70% vaccination among women born 1994–1999 and extend access to all genders up to age 26.
