Ulrika Årehed Kågström: 114 million reasons to hope when Cancerfonden invest heavily in researchers early in their careers
Ulrika Årehed Kågström, President at UICC, shared on LinkedIn:
“114 million reasons to hope when Cancerfonden invest heavily in researchers early in their careers.
Thanks to the generous support of the public, we can give 48 researchers at seven Swedish universities the opportunity to drive important research forward. It is primarily early-career researchers who are now receiving funding for new discoveries. In total, we have granted SEK 114 million to these researchers.
One of the research positions is awarded to Kristina Lång at Lund University, whose research on AI in breast cancer screening has already shown that the technology can improve accuracy by almost 30 percent. Now she and her team have the opportunity to take the next step – research that can not only improve early detection in Sweden, but also make breast cancer screening more accessible in low-income countries.
Breast cancer is still the most common cancer in women, and every advance in diagnosis and treatment is a victory. By supporting researchers early in their careers and also opening doors for international knowledge exchange, we ensure that Sweden continues to be a leading nation in cancer research.
Thank you to everyone who contributes – together we take steps closer to a future where more people survive cancer!”
