Tracey O’Brien Urges Greater Use of Bowel Cancer Screening Tests in NSW
Tracey O’Brien, Chief Cancer Officer and CEO of Cancer Institute NSW, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Bowel cancer is one of Australia’s deadliest cancers but if caught early, it’s also one of the most treatable. A simple at home test can be life-saving, but in NSW, only 2 in 5 people who receive the test actually use it.
Rachel Rizk counts herself as among those who didn’t act quick enough. When she was diagnosed with bowel cancer at age 55, she had a number of unused tests sitting in her cupboard.
We know people who do the test are almost twice as likely to have their cancer detected at the earliest stage. As a community, we need to work together to make the test a priority.
If you’re aged 45-74, you can access a free at home bowel cancer screening kit. Don’t put it off, it’s quick and easy and could save your life.
Read Rachel’s story and find out more about bowel cancer screening in NSW.”
