Tracey O’Brien Honors Nurses as the Heart of the Health System
Tracey O’Brien, NSW Chief Cancer Officer and CEO of the Cancer Institute NSW, shared a post on LinkedIn by Cancer Institute NSW, adding:
“It’s a day to celebrate the expertise, compassion and empathy of nurses – the heart and soul of our health system.
Whether they are working in our hospital wards, community, research labs, universities or health agencies like the Cancer Institute NSW, they wake up every day, driven to help those in need.
Their passion is unparalleled and I am honoured to know, learn from and work alongside some of the most talented nurses in NSW.”
Quoting Cancer Institute NSW’s post below:
“Today on International Nurses Day, we recognise the compassion, dedication and expertise of nurses across the world.
At the Cancer Institute, we proudly recognise our colleagues – from those who began their careers in nursing, to those who continue to deliver expert clinical care for people experiencing cancer across NSW.
Four nurses from across our teams shared what nursing and International Nurses Day means to them.
- “Cancer nursing is a career where we show up each and every day, giving 100% to our patients, regardless of external circumstances.” – Donna Lokeni.
- “I’ve had the privilege of working with many amazing individual clinicians and cancer care teams throughout my career.” – Erin Downs.
- “It has been most rewarding helping people in a time of need and supporting them and their families.” – Anthea Temple.
- “It is such a privilege to be able to provide care and support to people in such a time of need.” – Karen Jameson-Sutton.
The impact of our nurses is immeasurable, supporting patients through their toughest days, offering hope in times of uncertainty and strengthening our health system.
To the nurses of NSW and beyond – we see you, and we thank you.”
