The Silver Jubilee of the Townsville to Cairns Bike Ride: Raising Funds for Childhood Cancer – Children’s Cancer Institute
Children’s Cancer Institute shared a post on LinkedIn:
“On Thursday 24th July, hundreds geared up to celebrate the Townsville to Cairns Bike Ride ‘Silver Jubilee’ – raising funds to find a cure for childhood cancer.
The annual Townsville to Cairns Bike Ride is a gruelling cycling challenge that raises crucial funds for Children’s Cancer Institute. And for 25 years, this iconic and community-driven ride has raised over $8 million to support vital research projects.
This is the Institute’s longest-standing community fundraiser, and was first started by Sel Hardwick, whose family’s personal experience with cancer ignited a powerful desire to make a difference. TCBR is not just a test of physical endurance, but a testament to the spirit of the riders who dedicate themselves to the cause, with many returning year-on-year to take part.
The 2025 ride left from Townsville on Thursday, July 24th and arrived in Cairns on Saturday, July 26th, with participants conquering a challenging 374 km route. With riders and support crew, we had over 230 people on the ride and the community raised over $360k (and counting). They rode through heat, plenty of rain and an array of road conditions, motivated by a singular cause: to raise vital funds for childhood cancer research.
The Spirit of the Ride is a true testament to the goodness of the people all over Australia, made particularly special as it celebrates and involves those who were impacted by the floods earlier this year.
The community spirit! Ranging from lunch generously provided by the Lions Club, to cheering school kids and local businesses offering free gelato – the sense of community spirit is second to none.
A HUGE thank you to everyone involved in making Townsville to Cairns Bike Ride’s 25th year such a tremendous success.”
