Todd Harper: Calling for healthier advertising at Southern Cross Station
Todd Harper, CEO at Cancer Council Victoria, posted the following on LinkedIn:
“Concerning new research by Cancer Council Victoria shows that nearly half of the ads in Victoria’s largest train station, Southern Cross, promote alcohol, sugary drinks, or junk food.
Southern Cross has a large number of children using the station every day, but our research found that 1 in 4 ads in the station promoted alcohol, while 1 in 5 ads marketed junk food like fast food and sugary drinks.
To prevent cancer and other chronic health issues, we want to see these environments change and ensure transport hubs create healthier environments.
That’s why we are calling for the government to remove alcohol advertising from Southern Cross Station and junk food advertising from all public transport in Victoria. Together, we can create environments that encourage the health and wellbeing of future generations.
