Terisa Tamang: Advocating for Mental Health Awareness in Nepal’s Children Through Art and Silence
Terisa Tamang, Founder, President and Counselor of Dhairya Cancer Foundation, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“As a counselor, I often sit with children who don’t have the words to describe what they feel but today, they showed it through their drawings. What they expressed with their pens and colors was raw, emotional, and real. Some showed fear, some sadness, others confusion. Each one carried a message their heart had been holding in silence.
But what hurts me most is knowing that this isn’t just happening in one classroom or one school this is happening across the whole country.
In Nepal, mental health is still not given the attention it deserves, especially for children. There are countless young minds silently struggling, misunderstood, and unseen.I’m sorry I couldn’t reach more students. But I carry hope that with time, with awareness, and with collective effort, we can expand this work. We can build a Nepal where every child’s mental health is cared for, not ignored. Because today’s children are tomorrow’s future.
If we want a healthier, stronger Nepal, we must begin by listening to their stories, even the ones told through art and silence. At Dhairya Cancer Foundation, we are committed to this mission, one child, one safe space, one healing moment at a time. Let’s be the change they’re quietly waiting for.”
