– the anatomy of the peritoneum and peritoneal cavity is complex leading to many peritoneal tunnels and recesses that could harbor peritoneal metastases
– prior surgical intervenions create artifical occult peritoneal spaces
-some peritoneal sites are difficult to inspectFailure to inspect and clear these occult peritoneal spaces could lead to a Pseudo-complete cytoreductive surgery.
This manuscript provides a comprehensive list and anatomical description of the occult spaces or ‘hidden regions’.
