Shabnam Gujadhur: Day 2 at ASCO – Innovation, Insights, and Inspiration
Shabnam Gujadhur, Doctor at , shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Day 2 at American Society of Clinical Oncology – innovation, insights, and inspiration.
A major highlight of today was diving into the promise and complexity of multi-cancer detection (MCD) tests as a potential screening tool.
While we currently have effective screening tests for breast, prostate, lung, colorectal, and cervical cancers, more than half of cancer deaths occur in sites where no screening programs exist.
Ovarian cancer — the most lethal gynecological cancer — remains one of those cancers without a reliable screening option.
MCD technology holds exciting potential to detect cancers earlier, but it also raises important concerns:
Poor sensitivity or high false positive rates Overdiagnosis and unnecessary interventions
Identifying untreatable cancers
Psychological harms including anxiety and cancer worry
Increased burden on healthcare systems
Widening health disparities
These discussions highlighted how essential it is to balance hope with caution, and innovation with equity.
The Women in Oncology networking session was a standout — a powerful reminder of the strength, leadership, and resilience of women in medicine. Three inspiring leaders shared their journeys, emphasizing the importance of putting yourself out there, building community, and creating connections beyond your institution.
At the roundtable discussions, we spoke about navigating medicine as women — balancing work and life/family, the challenges we face, and the importance of taking things one step at a time.
The day concluded with a powerful panel on work-life balance and burnout led by three incredible female oncologists. Their message:
Build your support system
Seek mentorship
Setting boundaries
Take breaks without guilt
Realign with your values when you’re feeling lost
This session was a reminder that everyone’s journey is different — and that’s okay.
Truly an empowering and interesting day.”
