Talking with Iylon Precision Oncology CEO John Tarantino has always been such an inspiration. He shares invaluable life skills through his own experiences.

Just yesterday, John told me a remarkable story from his childhood that truly shaped his understanding of work, people, and the value of persistence.

When he was only 8 years old, John eagerly asked his family for an allowance to buy fun things like comics. Instead of simply giving him the money, his family encouraged him to earn it himself. When he expressed interest in working at his uncle’s fruit stand, he found out he needed to be at least 14. But this didn’t discourage him.

His uncle suggested shoe shining instead and even took the time to teach him how to do it. With determination, young John set up his little shoe-shining business right next to the fruit stand. This was his first true introduction to work and customer service. Through this fantastic experience, John learned how to engage with people effectively.

He picked up helpful marketing lessons from this experience, like how to compliment customers, start friendly conversations, and make them feel truly valued. This warm approach not only helped him build a loyal clientele but also instilled in him the skills and principles that he cherishes to this day.

John’s story beautifully illustrates the power of starting small, embracing challenges, and always being eager to learn.

It reminds us that every experience, no matter how humble, can shape us into who we are today.”
