Sarah Louden: The start of a New Year often brings a surge of ambition mixed with anxiety

“As a leader, the start of a New Year often brings a surge of ambition mixed with the anxiety around whether I will be strong enough to take on everything that’s thrown at me. I also have a desire to set bold goals and drive our team at Total Health Oncology toward excellence.

During the break, I was reading and listening to Craig Groeschel Leadership Podcast and the concept of ‘GETMO’ – Good Enough to Move On. He suggests that leaders should focus on achieving excellence without being paralyzed by the unattainable standard of perfection.

Similarly, I reread Malcolm Gladwell’s insights into the ‘10,000-Hour Rule’ that reinforces the value of consistent effort and practice over the illusion of immediate perfection. The challenge is to cultivate a growth mindset, focusing on continuous improvement and learning.

My mission is really to provide free global oncology education that drives us to innovate and adapt, embracing new technologies and methodologies to better serve healthcare professionals and patients alike.

I found myself asking

Are my goals for us aligned with our core purpose?
Do I encourage my team to recognize the point of “Good Enough to Move On,” avoiding the paralysis of perfection?
Am I committed to continuous improvement, understanding that mastery requires time and perseverance?

Ultimately, am I patient and kind as a leader, setting realistic expectations? That is a big question for me. One that I need to commit to possible hard-to-hear convos with my team.

Get ready 2025… here I come.”
