Sachin Jain about balancing experience and opportunity in hiring
Sachin Jain, President and CEO of SCAN Group and Health Plan, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“There’s a high premium placed on ‘experience in a role’ before people are hired into roles.
But how do people get experience in roles unless someone takes a chance on them in that role at some point?
As a close mentor, Leeba Lessin, once told me: ‘There are some jobs that you only learn how to do once you are in them.’
How do you navigate the tension between rewarding and selecting for experience (which often, but not always, correlates with success) and opportunity creation for someone who hasn’t done that exact job before?”
