“We rarely talk about how traumatic one’s job and career can be.
Almost every week, I speak with someone who has faced some life-altering disappointment at work that they have trouble getting over.
Sometimes the event was last week.
But, oftentimes, the event was last year or even years ago.
I’ve certainly experienced my own share of of disappointments and setbacks.
Given how much of ourselves we often invest into work, some amount of this kind of trauma is inevitable.
But it’s also important to do the work to heal from it and soldier on – but also to put everything in perspective and recognize that work is well, just, work.
And we only control what we control.”
