Sachin H. Jain: When most people start their careers in healthcare, they’re driven by something bigger than themselves
Sachin H. Jain, President and CEO of SCAN Group, posted on LinkedIn:
“When most people start their careers in healthcare, they’re driven by something bigger than themselves.
They want to help people. To heal communities. To change systems. But somewhere along the way, something shifts. By the end, too many are simply proud that their job afforded them a comfortable lifestyle. We don’t talk enough about that drift. When does a life in healthcare go from being a calling… to just a career? How is it that a system so dependent on mission-driven people can so easily erode their sense of mission?
I worry that we’ve built a culture and structure that slowly squanders our greatest asset: the intrinsic motivation, goodwill, and humanity of the people who choose to serve in health and healing. Was the “calling” ever real in the first place? If it was real, how do we bring it back?”
