Ruth Porat Discusses Google’s AI Initiatives in Cancer Research and Care at ASCO 2025
Ruth Porat, President and Chief Investment Officer of Alphabet and Google, posted on LinkedIn:
“Thanks to the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) for the opportunity to share Google’s work applying AI to advance cancer research, treatment, care, and cures.
This talk was personal for me; I offered my perspective both as someone privileged to work with amazing scientists driving solutions and as a cancer survivor.
AI is accelerating scientific breakthroughs, supporting better clinical delivery and outcomes, and strengthening cybersecurity in an era of rising healthcare data breaches.
From tools that aid early detection and treatment decisions, to agentic AI that helps clinicians stay current with the latest guidelines, we are already seeing powerful examples of what AI is making possible in healthcare.
As Dr. Clifford Hudis, CEO of ASCO, my oncologist and friend once said to me: “AI is a critical part of democratizing healthcare – so that everyone, everywhere can have access to the best insights” that are invaluable to achieving the best outcomes.
AI will not cure cancer on its own, but it can amplify what clinicians do best: discover, care, and heal.
You can read my full remarks here.”
