Samson Mah: The Inaugural Edition of the Rural Oncology Conference Was Nothing Short of a Huge Success

Samson Mah, Research Assistant at Tikhanovich Lab at the University of Kansas Medical Center, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“This weekend, attendees from across the country came together for the inaugural edition of the Rural Oncology Conference, and it was nothing short of a huge success!
After months of planning, we were able to bring together providers and advocates into a space where discussions ranged from telemedicine and novel ideas for community-based practice, to breakthrough treatments and the latest research from the rural oncology field.
A huge thank you to my fellow collaborators from the Rural Cancer Institute (including but not limited to Wade Swenson, Zachary Schroeder, Emily McGovern, Sahil Prakash, Andrew Armstrong, Jasmine Kamboj, Ruiling Yuan, An Nguyen, Caroline Schroeder (Holgerson), Abigail Swenson, Sean K., Valerie Davis, Katie Hornbeck) who have worked for months behind to scenes to make this event possible. Also a huge thank you to our many wonderful speakers from the University of Kansas Medical Center.
I’m also very excited to have had my research featured at our poster presentation. Alongside Zack Schroeder, our research looked into key factors surrounding rural oncology practice and fellowship training. Our key takeaways noted that rural oncologists often relied on a broader skillset versus urban counterparts, and that lifestyle benefits and competitive compensation were key factors in recruiting and retaining providers.
As we look back on the many successes of this year’s event, we’re also excited at the idea of making next year’s event even bigger and better.”
