Roupen Odabashian: The hardest part of being a physician
Roupen Odabashian, Internal Medicine Physician and Hematology/Oncology Fellow at Karmanos Cancer Institute and Podcast Host at OncoDaily, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“The hardest part of being a physician…
It’s when you see patients in the hospital with severe conditions, unable to communicate due to their illness – whether it’s a stroke or another debilitating disease.
You reach out to their family to provide an update, only to hear the patient’s own voice on the answering machine, recorded a while ago when they were healthy, greeting you!
In that moment, you get a glimpse of who they were before – contrasted sharply with who they are now.
And the most frustrating part? Knowing that no matter how much you want to, you can’t bring them back to who they used to be.”
