Richard Scolyer: Honoring and supporting melanoma patients at the Melanoma March in Sydney
Richard Scolyer, Senior Staff Specialist in Tissue Pathology and Diagnostic Oncology at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, shared a post on X:
“It was very special to join with the community to honour and support melanoma patients and their families and friends at the Melanoma March in Sydney on Sunday (one of 28 melanoma marches which take place around Australia during the month of March).
I’ve been working with the melanoma unit/MIA for more than 25 years (I started in 1998) where I’ve been passionate about and committed to helping melanoma patients, often those with the “trickiest” melanoma. Whilst we have had extraordinary success in improving outcomes for many melanoma patients, there is still more work needed for some patients within all aspects of this disease (from prevention to early diagnosis to better treatment, especially those with advanced melanoma).
Although I am certainly very proud of our successes so far, we remain deeply committed to deliver on our goal of Zero Deaths from Melanoma. I also sincerely hope that brain cancer patients can achieve similar successes in the not too distant future!”
