Rasika Bombatkar: A Space Where Patients and Doctors Connected as Humans First
Rasika Bombatkar, Technical Advisor at World Health Organization and Director and Buddy Program Lead Manager at Lung Connect, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“On World Lung Cancer Day, we at Lung Connect hosted a virtual session that was different by design — a space where patients and doctors could set aside the clinical charts, and connect as humans first.
Our goal? To make conversations around lung cancer a little lighter, a little warmer, and a lot more personal.
We invited patients to submit questions they always wanted to ask their doctors — not about medications or scans, but about the everyday things they were curious about but never got the chance to ask in a busy OPD.
Some gems included:
- ‘Do you ever use ChatGPT or Google for medical doubts?’
- ‘When an elder in your family suggests home remedies, do you follow them or correct them with scientific facts?’
The doctors couldn’t help but laugh — and then answer honestly and thoughtfully. They didn’t just respond with facts, but shared personal stories, laughed with the patients, and used each question as a knowledge sharing moment.
In the end, both patients and doctors said the same thing: ‘We need more of this.’
- More connection.
- More compassion.
- Less fear.
- Less formality.
We closed the session on a high note — literally — with a musical sing-along, reminding us all that joy and healing can go hand in hand.
Because sometimes, healing begins with a smile, a song, and a conversation that feels like home.
Check out the full session on our youtube channel.”
