Rasha Aboelhassan: Cancer patients are the best heroes
Rasha Aboelhassan, Senior Oncology Consultant at Nasser Institute Hospital, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“When I was a child I used to think that the best hero is superman who always saves the world from bad people.
When I become an oncologist, I always look for patients who sacrifice their organs to save their life as a hero.
One of these heroes are patients who have low rectal cancer and have to sacrifice their anal sphincter and live with colostomy for life.
Fortunately, on Jan 2024, the publication of A Secondary Analysis of the OPRA Randomized Clinical Trial showing that there is a great hope for sphincter preservation as well as survival benefits.
((clinical tumour response grade after TNT among 304 patients using 3 grades and found clinical tumour response grade was significantly associated with survival and organ preservation))
I really appreciate investigators who worked on this clinical trial.
And by all means, cancer patients are the best heroes.”
