Tracey O’Brien Shared Rare Cancer Patient Hamish’s Story on 2025 Rare Cancers Awareness Day
Tracey O’Brien, Chief Cancer Officer and CEO of Cancer Institute NSW, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Every year, around 10,000 people are diagnosed with a rare or less common cancer in NSW. That’s almost 30 people a day.
Hamish is one of these people, who at just 25 years of age was diagnosed with an incredibly rare and aggressive cancer affecting around one in 5 million people worldwide.
We know that advancements in precision medicine, gene therapy and immunotherapy are bringing hope for a better future, but there’s much more to be done.
On Rare Cancers Awareness Day, my thoughts are with the families navigating a rare cancer journey and the incredible people working across NSW to change the narrative for people living with rare cancers.
Hamish’s story is one of strength, resilience and medical innovation. I encourage you to take a moment to read his story.”
