The Power Over Cancer Gathering at Springhill Church – UF Health Cancer Center
UF Health Cancer Center shared a post on LinkedIn:
” ‘Events like these help bridge the gap in getting this information to regular people in the community,’ said Joni Perkins, who attended our Power Over Cancer Gathering on Saturday at Springhill Church.
The inspiring gathering drew a packed crowd to learn about breast, ovarian and cervical cancers and their sexual impact. Attendees had the opportunity to get support on coping with cancer in small group discussion sessions, ask questions, and learn about participating in UF research studies.
The gathering included presentations on prevention, early detection and new cancer treatment options by UF Health gynecologic oncologist Kaitlin Nicholson, and Oluwadamilola Oladeru, a radiation oncologist at Mayo Clinic.
Carolyn M. Tucker, a research professor in the UF Department of Psychology, gave a presentation on the sexual impact of these cancers on women and their spouses or partners.
Our Office of Community Outreach and Engagement team offered tours of our new Mobile Cancer Screening Connector and signed people up for cancer screenings. The team provided cancer resources and education and conducted a community needs assessment to be sure our center’s work best meets the needs of the communities it serves.
