OncoDaily Medical Journal is pleased to announce the launch of the “Pediatric Cancer in Africa in 2026” Special Series. This series is co-edited by Joyce Balagadde Kambugu, Laila Hessissen, and Jaques van Heerden, leading pediatric oncologists who have played key roles in strengthening childhood cancer care and advancing pediatric oncology.
The series aims to provide clinicians, researchers, and policymakers with critical insights on childhood cancer burden, care delivery, survival challenges, and policy implementation across African countries, recognizing the unique epidemiology, resource settings, and health system realities across the continent. Accepted manuscripts will be fast-tracked for publication and prominently featured as part of this regional initiative.
Key Focus Areas for Submissions
- Epidemiology, Prevention and Early Detection: Understanding childhood cancer incidence, survival trends, diagnostic delays, and opportunities to improve early detection across African populations.
- Healthcare System Disparities: Examining how structural, economic, and geographic barriers, including shortages of pediatric oncologists, diagnostic delays, and access challenges, shape the quality and timeliness of pediatric cancer care.
- Policy, Implementation Science and Health System Strengthening: Analyses of national childhood cancer initiatives, integration of pediatric oncology into national cancer control plans, implementation research, and strategies to strengthen the pediatric oncology workforce, infrastructure, and referral systems.
- Treatment Advances and Integration: Studies on the implementation and effectiveness of updated treatment protocols, access to essential medicines and supportive care, innovative models of care, and approaches to reducing treatment abandonment.
- Impact of Technology and AI in Cancer Care: Exploration of how digital platforms, telemedicine, artificial intelligence, and electronic health systems can support childhood cancer diagnosis, treatment planning, patient tracking, and data-driven decision-making in low-resource settings.
Submission Deadline: March 31st, 2026.
We invite submissions from pediatric oncologists, hematologists, nurses, surgeons, radiation oncologists, allied health professionals, researchers, advocates, and policymakers in Africa and globally.
