Patrick Hwu: Could targeting T cell metabolism be the next big thing in boosting cancer immunotherapy?
Patrick Hwu, President and CEO of Moffitt Cancer Center, shared an article by KayLee Steiner et al, on LinkedIn:
“Could targeting T cell metabolism be the next big thing in boosting cancer immunotherapy?
New research shows tweaking how T cells use fat can change their survival and power.
In this study, KayLee Steiner, Jeffrey Rathmell et. al found that a gene called MECR helps T cells get the energy they need to fight disease. Without MECR, T cells struggle to survive and do their job.
By understanding these metabolic pathways, we might find new ways to make cancer-fighting T cells even stronger!
Exciting possibilities ahead!
Mitochondrial fatty acid synthesis and MECR regulate CD4+ T cell function and oxidative metabolism
