One Voice Against Cancer Urges Increased Federal Funding for Cancer Research in FY26
One Voice Against Cancer posted on LinkedIn:
“Cancer touches nearly every American family. Thanks to years of strong bipartisan support on Capitol Hill and beyond, we’ve made incredible progress. More people are surviving cancer than ever before, and that’s made possible by critical investments in The National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the National Cancer Institute (NCI). But that historic progress is at risk.
In FY25, funding for key agencies including the NIH and NCI have been frozen. With inflation on the rise, that’s tantamount to a cut in funding. This has resulted in layoffs, delays, and hiring freezes at major cancer research centers, including the NIH. Meanwhile, other countries are ramping up their research investments.
This is about groundbreaking science and our nation’s crucial role in saving lives, creating jobs, and keeping America at the forefront of scientific discovery.
That’s why OVAC urges Congress to fund these critical programs in FY26:
- $51.3B for NIH
- $7.93B for NCI
- $482.9M for CDC’s cancer programs
- $1.5B for ARPA-H.”
