NYU Langone Health Names Alec C. Kimmelman as Next CEO and Dean

“Tremendous news out of NYU Langone Health and NYU Grossman School of Medicine!!!

I have known Alec for 20 years since doing our residency together. I’ll leave it to the PR to detail his ridiculous list of achievements and talk about what a brilliant scientist and accomplished leader he is, but I’ll add that he is a tremendous person, a great friend/peer/mentor, and (most importantly) a fantastic doctor who cares deeply about patients and takes the responsibility very seriously.

The academic environment at Harvard Medical School is often described as competitive and full of people with “sharp elbows” but Alec has always been a star among stars who people gravitated towards not only due to his easy going nature but also because he treated everyone with kindness and respect.

He is a humble servant leader because everything centers around the sacred responsibility of being a doctor for him. He would drop anything for a patient and you would want him taking care of your family member. All of his scientific efforts was aimed at impacting patients with the deadliest of cancers. Nothing is more important to him as a leader than the highest quality medical care.

NYU Langone Health and NYU Grossman School of Medicine are already premier institutions, but there is a tremendous opportunity to take what has been built there and lead the world into a future where science and technology will impact patients in dramatically new ways and require new ways of teaching, learning, and practicing medicine.

I can’t think of anyone better to lead into that future than Alec, and I can safely predict that he will be a talent magnet to draw the best of the best in science and medicine to join him in the journey!”
