Nirmalee Perera: DPYD gene variant patterns in Fluoropyrimidine-based Chemotherapy Toxicity
Nirmalee Perera, Trainee embryologist at Hemas Hospitals, Sri Lanka, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“I am excited to share that our research on DPYD genetic variants has been published at the 4th International Conference on Frontiers in Molecular Life Sciences organized by the Institute of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Our study investigated the DPYD gene variant patterns in fluoropyrimidine-based chemotherapy toxicity, focusing uniquely on South Asian populations. By comparing genetic variations across different global populations, we aim to enhance patient safety and treatment outcomes in cancer care.
This research would contribute to the growing field of pharmacogenomics and personalized medicine, potentially improving chemotherapy safety protocols for South Asian patients.
The research journey took place at the Center for Genetics & Genomics, Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo and I’m incredibly grateful to my mentors, Prof. Priyanga Ranasinghe and Dr. Jagath Kasthuriarachchi for their invaluable guidance and wisdom throughout this project.
I also want to mention the immense contributions extended by Mr. Manura Basuru Weerasinghe during the journey.”
