Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu: It was an honor to share the Nigerian country experience on HPV vaccination
Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu, Chief Executive Officer at Medicaid Cancer Foundation, shared on LinkedIn:
“This week, I’ve been at the AACR 2025 meeting in Chicago. This year’s theme “Unifying Cancer Science and Medicine: A Continuum of Innovation for Impact,” directs scientists to focus on developing meaningful ways to reduce the burden of cancer.
I had the privilege of participating in a conversation on ‘Advances in Prevention Research Towards the Elimination of Cervical Cancer in Low- and Middle-Income Countries.’
It was an honor to share the Nigerian country experience on HPV vaccination as one of the 3 interventional strategies to eliminate cervical cancer, alongside Julie S. Torode and Karen Canfell. Each speaker highlighted the critical need for prevention strategies, investment in research, and community-driven approaches to eliminate cervical cancer, in low-resource settings.
Beyond the session, I met other researchers, clinicians, stakeholders, and advocates — all committed to ending cancer as we know it. I was especially pleased to meet Dr. Folakemi Odedina, Professor Fumilayo Olopade as well as Dr. Aisha Mustapha and other young Africans, contributing to cancer research.
The American Association for Cancer Research continues to play a pivotal role in this mission – convening vital scientific conferences that foster collaboration, spark innovation, and accelerate solutions. We are working to prevent and cure cancer through collaboration, one discovery, one dialogue, and one step at a time.”
