Behavioral Research

REGISTER NOW!

Join recipients of Phase II awards for the NCI’s Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Topic 425, Information Technology Tools for Automated Analysis of Physical Activity, Performance, and Behavior from Images for Improved Cancer Health, as they discuss development and validation of software tools to extract information about physical activity, posture, and aspects of physical performance related to oncology and physical trauma recovery outcomes.

Epidemiology and Genomics

The Epidemiology and Genomics Research Program recently celebrated the 10 year anniversary of the Sequencing Strategies for Population and Cancer Epidemiology Studies (SeqSPACE) webinar series. A special webinar, which is now available to view, took place on December 3, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. ET to mark this exciting milestone. Speakers reflected on lessons learned, opportunities and challenges, and their vision for the future of sequencing in cancer epidemiology.

Health Disparities and Health Equity

Did you miss NCI’s Centering Equity in Cancer Research November webinar?

Drs. Florence Dallo and Morhaf Al Achkar presented on the importance of disaggregating data of the Middle Eastern and North African (MENA) population and described the current state of cancer research among MENA populations.

Implementation Science

The 17th Annual Conference on the Science of Dissemination and Implementationis in the books!

This year’s conference theme addressed the underexplored concept of the pace of dissemination and implementation. Attendees gathered December 8-11, 2024, to explore methodological advancements, challenges, and opportunities for understanding how to investigate and optimize implementation pace across health care, community, and public health systems.

Next year’s conference is scheduled for December 14-17, 2025, in Washington D.C.

Surveillance

Kudos to Natalie Joe, who is featured in the Researcher Spotlight Series by the NIH Tribal Health Research Office (THRO). Dr. Joe is a Cancer Prevention Fellow working in our Surveillance Research Program. Her projects focus on cancer surveillance research within U.S. Indigenous communities and efforts to achieve cancer health equity for her community.

Survivorship

In its latest report, with input from Office of Cancer Survivorship Deputy Director Michelle Mollica, the President’s Cancer Panel outlines four priorities for using technology to expand access to patient navigation and increase equity in cancer care:

  • Use technology to support patient navigation and enhance equity
  • Ensure equitable access to technology
  • Promote responsible development and use of technology
  • Facilitate data sharing while maintaining privacy and security
