Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu Shared Insights from NCCM 2025 at Sunway University, Kuala Lumpur
Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu, UICC President-Elect of 2024-2026 and a Founder of the Medicaid Cancer Foundation, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“The city of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia holds a special place in my heart, as it is the city where my Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) journey started. Thus, with great pleasure, I joined cancer experts, advocates, and changemakers at the National Cancer Congress Malaysia (NCCM) 2025, hosted at Sunway University, Kuala Lumpur.
Through my meetings, I reflected on the importance of south-south collaboration, innovation in cancer care delivery, and strengthening civil society engagement across the cancer continuum.
This gathering sought to exchange insights and reaffirm our collective resolve to bridge cancer care gaps across regions. The Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) held an interactive side event during which I engaged members from the region; Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and others!
Once more, the close collaboration between public and private sectors in the country was very apparent. Sunway city and its amazing infrastructure and facilities such as universities, housing, hotels, resorts, shopping mall, etc is a huge testimony to this. Malaysian Companies operate a strong culture of social corporate responsibility, through which cancer patients and organizations benefit greatly.
