Monica Bertagnolli: It’s been an extraordinary privilege to work alongside Kimryn Rathmell
Monica Bertagnolli, Former Director of the National Institutes of Health, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“It’s been an extraordinary privilege to work alongside Dr. W. Kimryn Rathmell who today announced her departure as National Cancer Institute (NCI) Director. Her priorities included addressing the rising incidence of early-onset cancer, reducing inequities in cancer care, and inspiring the next generation of cancer researchers.
Her contributions to NCI and the broader field of cancer research will continue to inspire progress in the fight against cancer. Please read more about Dr. Rathmell’s accomplishments in my director’s statement.”
Monica Bertagnolli has served as the Director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), USA. She is the President of Alliance for Clinical Trials In Oncology Foundation. She previously served as the Richard E. Wilson Professor of Surgery in the field of surgical oncology at Harvard Medical School, a surgeon at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and a member of the Gastrointestinal Cancer Treatment and Sarcoma Centers at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
Dr. Bertagnolli is the Founding Chair of the minimal Common Oncology Data Elements (mCODE) executive committee and has held multiple positions nationally, including being Past President and Chair of the Board of Directors of the American Society of Clinical Oncology. In 2021, she was elected to the National Academy of Medicine, having previously served on the National Academies National Cancer Policy Forum.
Dr. Kimryn Rathmell is the former director of the National Cancer Institute. She is a distinguished leader and researcher in the field of kidney cancer. Specializing in the research and treatment of complex and hereditary kidney cancers.
She has held leadership positions with organizations such as the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Society for Clinical Investigation, she has been elected to esteemed academies including the Association of American Physicians, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the National Academy of Medicine.
