Mila Ogalla Toledo: There is No Shortcut to Knowledge

Mila Ogalla Toledo, Communication Specialist, Patient Advocate, Public Speaker, and Project Manager, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“June, what a month!

I had the opportunity and honour of participating in the first-ever Global Early Onset Colorectal Cancer Think Tank (GEOCRCTT) organised by Fight Colorectal Cancer in Barcelona.

You couldn’t deny the energy in the room and the determination to turn ideas into tangible action. It was the start of real solutions to a growing problem. A global effort to solve a global problem.

I couldn’t be more proud or grateful to stand alongside these passionate experts, advocates, and researchers from all over the globe who came together to advance EOCRC research, prevention, and treatment.

From 22+ countries, to my incredible Digestive Cancers Europe family, it was amazing to see so many brilliant minds and souls unite, all working together towards the same goal. I am beyond thankful to have learned from and with everyone involved, and for being trusted to contribute to this narrative.

Sharing my lived cancer experience is never easy, but this is not just about me. It’s about helping others feel seen, heard, and supported, and ensuring they have access to the information, care, and resources we struggled to find before, during, and after treatment.

Thank you to everyone for trusting me to be a part of this, especially to José Perea García and Andrea Dwyer. We have work to do!

And, on top of this, I was nominated by Digestive Cancers Europe to join the WECAN Academy 2025, a training event for cancer patient advocates across Europe, held in Rome! I wouldn’t have had this life-changing opportunity without them (thank you so much for trusting, nominating, and believing in me).

Learning about advocacy tools, policy, research, data, and connecting with others who share the same drive to make a real difference never grows old. I absolutely love it!

‘There is no shortcut to knowledge’. Let’s continue advocating for a more equitable, diverse, and inclusive healthcare system, together.”
