Michael Sapienza: Preventable – A New PSA Campaign to Prevent Colorectal Cancer
Michael Sapienza, Chief Executive Officer of the Colorectal Cancer Alliance, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“As part of our ongoing screening and prevention efforts, the Colorectal Cancer Alliance launched Preventable, a new public service announcement (PSA) campaign in both English and Spanish to spread awareness that screening can help prevent colorectal cancer. This is the Alliance’s first-ever Spanish-language PSA to help address rising colorectal cancer rates and screening disparities in the Hispanic community.
Hispanic adults face higher risk for colorectal cancer and are less likely to get screened for the disease. The Alliance State of Screening Study revealed gaps in awareness among Hispanics about CRC symptoms, screening options, and the preventability of the disease.
This new PSA, developed in partnership with Boom Broadcast and Media Relations aims to increase prevention education and screening. The PSA is part of the Alliance’s ongoing work to close the screening gap by empowering individuals to take proactive steps to protect their health.
Outreach like this, in addition to research, is essential to achieving our mission. We cannot end colorectal cancer without reaching underserved communities with the knowledge, tools, and support they need.
The Alliance also offers a free screening quiz in English and Spanish at quiz.getscreened.org.
