Pam Traxel: One in Ten Cancer Survivors Rely on Medicaid – Cuts Have Consequences
Pam Traxel, Senior Vice President of Alliance Development and Philanthropy at the American Cancer Society, shared a post on LinkedIn by ACS CAN, adding:
“I know many of you are looking forward to the Memorial Day Weekend. Please take a moment to let you US Representative know that cutting Medicaid has consequences for all of us. One in ten individuals with a history of cancer rely on Medicaid for their health coverage.
Getting screened and treated for cancer is key both for the patient and our country. Late-stage cancer costs up to seven times higher than the costs to treat earlier-stage cancer. Send an email, its easy! Your voice is vital in this important debate.”
Quoting American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN)’s post:
“The House is expected to vote this week on a bill that would cut Medicaid by $715 billion and kick 8.6 million people off their insurance. We need to be improving access to affordable health care, not taking it away.
Even if you’ve sent a message before, with so much at stake, will you send a message to your Representative now and urge them to vote NO on this bill? We have to remind them that cuts have consequences for cancer patients, children, seniors and more.”
Pam Traxel urged the public to contact their Representatives and oppose proposed Medicaid cuts. She highlighted that one in ten cancer survivors depend on Medicaid and emphasized that early cancer treatment is far more cost-effective than managing late-stage diagnoses.
