MedAccess and Elekta Partner to Launch Pay-Per-Use Radiotherapy Model for Cancer Care in LMICs
MedAccess shared a post on LinkedIn:
“MedAccess is delighted to partner with Elekta on an innovative pay-per-use model for radiotherapy treatment, the first of its kind for cancer care in Africa.
Radiotherapy access is low across Africa. For exampl, Tanzania has just seven radiotherapy machines for a population of almost 68 million. The UK, which has a similar-sized population, has approximately 350 machines.
Our partnership with Elekta will make radiotherapy more affordable and accessible. Governments will be able to move from purchasing standalone equipment to acquiring a comprehensive package that includes servicing and maintenance – with payments tied to the number of patients treated. MedAccess’ volume guarantee, which covers any potential shortfalls in the number of patients using the machines in Kenya and Tanzania, is helping to support the expansion of this all-inclusive model.
Our ambition is that this model increases the number of radiotherapy machines in Africa so that so that cancer patients in underserved communities will receive the treatment they need.
Habib Nehmé, Chief Commercial Officer at Elekta, shared this post, adding:
“Elekta technology with MedaAccess partnership, sealed yesterday, brings hope to patients battling cancer in emerging markets , by making advanced care more accessible and outcomes more equitable—regardless of where they live.”
